This is a Vertical Video…. Did YouTube Just Turn into IGTV?

YouTube has updated its web player to improve viewing, adding automatic adaptation based on the aspect ratio of the video, monitor and browser window size.

Previously, hosting was focused on horizontal video by default, which caused the edges to be limited to black bars around vertical and square videos, significantly reducing their size. The update fixes this issue not only for Android and iOS, but also for personal computers.

In addition to enlarging the video, the aspect ratio of the player will also change, allowing the free space to be used to enlarge the image. Such changes will not stimulate filming in specific formats, but will help the platform to stop the leakage of videos to competitors such as Instagram..
